The Typewriter (In the 21st Century) (by typewritermovie)

Lockett and Nicholson agreed that the passing of the typewriter, a portable printing press that moved the world’s communication technology from pen and ink to the QWERTY keyboards on today’s computers, along with the highly skilled technicians who service them, should be documented.

But as so often happens in documentaries, a funny thing happened on the way… to paraphrase Mark Twain, news of the typewriter’s death is greatly exaggerated. Three typewriter repairmen the filmmakers have interviewed all agree that their business is better than it has been in years. - Wired.com

Totally Rad Show: Video Game Review - Darksiders II
Jeff and Dan were huge fans of the first Darksiders game, even if it was a bit of a sleeper. The new sequel adds Diablo style loot to the mix, keeping the Zelda style puzzles and Prince of Persia style traversal. Is it enough to convert Alex? Does it renew the love for Jeff and Dan? Find out as TRS plays with Death in Darksiders 2.

Totally Rad Show: Movie Review - Ruby Sparks
Ruby Sparks is the tale of a writer who creates his dream woman, only to have her come to life in the real world. But that magical premise is only the jumping off point for a much more ambitious, grounded metaphor that breaks the mold of standard Hollywood fare. Dan, Jeff, and Alex come out raving about a small film that should be on everyone’s must watch list.

Operation Kino 66: Prometheus Reviewed And Discussed In Detail

This week on Operation Kino we’re taking our very hubristically named spaceship and heading off into the great beyond, as we review the new sci-fi epic Prometheus. And because this movie is so big and complicated, we devote Segment 3 to a more detailed and spoiler-filled conversation about the film and the many questions it leaves unanswered. Before any of that, though, there’s a lightning round inspired by Madagascar 3 and then tidbits, in which Da7e wants to rid the world of Fifty Shades of Grey, David breaks down the two types of mystery stories as it relates to BBC’s Sherlock, Katey likes Greta Gerwig much more than her movie Lola Versus, and Patches witnesses a group-sourced, shot-by-shot remake of Star Wars, and swears it’s actually great. We end, as always, with your lightning round answers for dessert.

Watch how future technology will help people make better use of their time, focus their attention, and strengthen relationships while getting things done at work, home, and on the go.”

Microsoft’s new video showcasing their vision for the future of productivity focuses on seamless digital experiences that are “smart” enough to be present at any moment and translate across various surfaces. The technology is incredibly intuitive, seeming to understand every single gesture, combined with vocal cues as well. Hopefully Microsoft’s vision for the future of productivity isn’t too far off!

LUMI: The sleep mask enters the 21st century

Taylor Franklin Hide looks tired. So it’s hardly surprising that the Alabama-based inventor has been so focused on maximizing the quality of his sleep.

Enter the LUMImask, which he has recently unveiled on the creative funding Web site KickStarter. The plain, black mask with an almost-invisible little alarm on one side looks like a Trekkie’s dream accoutrement (pun!), and it comes with an appropriately dramatic slogan: Light. Dark. Both. (Some things you just can’t make up.)
